Eric Ellis

Eric Ellis

Financial Adviser

When people ask Eric what he does, his answer is simple: “You know when you’re making money but aren’t sure what to do with it? I help people with that.”

This straightforward approach reflects his philosophy for financial planning.

After more than two decades in the profession, Eric has found that most people don’t need more information—they need a guide they trust to help them ask the right questions, understand their options, and make confident financial decisions. As an adviser, he works with individuals and families who have built meaningful wealth and don’t want to navigate every financial decision on their own. Instead, they want a trusted partner who can help them anticipate challenges, provide thoughtful guidance, and create a financial plan that serves their best interests no matter what life brings.

His Approach

Eric believes financial planning should be tailored to the person sitting across the table. Some clients want to dive into the details, while others simply want confidence that someone they trust is looking after their financial life. Eric meets them where they are, providing as much—or as little—detail as they need while ensuring they always understand the bigger picture.

One of the things Eric’s clients appreciate most is his determination to deliver advice in plain English. He simplifies complex financial concepts and communicates in practical terms, helping clients understand their options so they can feel confident in the decisions they make.

Who He Serves

Eric works with individuals and families seeking comprehensive, ongoing financial planning. Many have accumulated significant wealth through successful careers or businesses and want a trusted adviser to help them make thoughtful decisions about what comes next.

Over the years, he’s developed a fondness for working with widows. He recognizes that losing a spouse often means navigating an entirely new financial reality, particularly for those who were never expected to manage the family’s finances on their own. Eric comes alongside them and helps them create a clear plan so they can feel confident they’re doing the right things for their future.

Professional Background

Financial planning has been part of Eric’s life for as long as he can remember.

He grew up watching his mother build the family business, but rather than joining it immediately after college, Eric believed it was important to gain experience on his own first. He moved to Colorado, where he spent more than a decade building his career, working alongside thousands of financial advisers and gaining firsthand exposure to a wide range of planning philosophies, business models, and client experiences. Seeing what worked—and what didn’t—gave him a unique perspective that continues to shape how he serves clients today.

When Eric joined Ellis Financial Planning in 2014, he brought those experiences home. Since then, he has helped lead the firm’s continued evolution by refining processes, expanding the team, and building systems designed to better serve clients while positioning the practice for the future.

Education

  • Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance – Austin Peay State University

Community Involvement

Eric served for five years on the founding Board of Directors for Chapel Hill Christian Academy, providing strategic guidance during the school’s earliest years. Today he serves on the Advisory Board for the College of Business at Austin Peay State University. He and his family are also active members of LifePoint Church, where they enjoy serving and being involved in their church community.

Life Outside the Office

Eric and his wife Megan live in Clarksville, Tennessee, with their four children: Allie, Kate, Knox, and Lucy.

Outside of work, much of Eric’s time revolves around family and close friends. He enjoys coaching his kids’ basketball teams, exploring the neighborhood creek with them, and making the most of everyday moments together.

One of Eric’s favorite family traditions happens at the end of each day. Before bed, he, Megan, and the kids each share something they’re grateful for. Sometimes the answers are profound, and other times they’re as simple as popsicles after dinner. It’s a small ritual that reflects the values most important to him: gratitude, intentionality, and making time for the people he loves most.
